What is routed or scheduled delivery/distribution?
Routed distribution is regular delivery by van or truck of a product to a group of customers in a particular geographic area. A typical customer of a routed distribution service might need to make daily deliveries of its product from a central warehouse distribution location to multiple set customers over a defined geographic region. Each driver has a regular schedule and delivery route. A company may distribute a volume of product to the same geographic regions, but not to the same customers every day, or it may distribute a volume of product to the same customers at regular intervals. With routed or scheduled delivery, you can also have drivers pick up items or paperwork at the time of delivery that need to come back to your distribution center.

Routed distribution combines the reliability of a dedicated transportation fleet with the speed of a same day or overnight service, at a significantly lower cost than either one.

How is routed distribution different from "on demand" delivery?
"On demand" delivery is what you get from overnight delivery companies like FedEx and UPS, or from same day courier delivery services. In the case of couriers, you call them to pick up a product, they dispatch someone to your location and deliver it to your destination. In either case, each item is billed by size/weight and distance from pickup location to destination. If you are making regular deliveries to the same geographic area and are using a courier or overnight service, Delivery Specialists can probably save you money and give you more reliable delivery service.
